BIOGRAPHY

Sam Winchester's world was literally turned upside down when his big brother Dean showed up at his apartment in California. The younger son of John and Mary Winchester, he'd grown up surrounded by the hunter lifestyle since he was a baby. His mom died when he was only six months old, murdered in his nursery by the demon Azazel. His dad set out to destroy the yellow-eyed demon responsible for Mary's murder, bringing Dean and Sam along in tow. As he got older, the constant moving and dangers were a source of conflict between Sam and his father. Sam wanted to go off to school and make an attempt at a normal life; John wanted to be able to pass on the hunter legacy to his sons. As a result, his father bonded a little more with Dean, who shouldered a large part of the burden without hesitation.

Sam left the family to study at Stanford, but a year and a half later, Dean showed up, with the news that their father had disappeared on a hunt. The two brothers set off to look for him, with Sam making it perfectly clear that it was only a one time trip. However, when he came back to find his girlfriend Jessica murdered by the same demon that had killed his mother, he agreed to leave school and pick up the hunting gig once again. The two brothers set off on a journey to find their dad and seek vengeance on the demon who killed their mother. Along the way, they defeated many supernatural creatures, and Sam realized he possessed powers of precognition and telekinesis, powers that had been given to him by Azazel, who had performed a ritual on him when he was a little boy and only killed Mary because she'd interrupted him in the middle of it. In a battle with a soldier named Jake, Sam was stabbed and died in Dean's arms, but Dean made a deal with a Crossroads Demon to deliver himself to Hell in one year in exchange for Sam's life. Sam's next goal was to get Dean out of the deal he made, no matter what. But by the end of one year, Dean's time had come, and Sam was forced to watch helplessly as the demon Lilith came to collect Dean and bring him to Hell.

Dean's return from Hell brought along a whole new series of complications, as it was revealed that Sam had been involved in a twisted relationship with Ruby (who was possessing a legally dead young woman) and the beings that had pulled Dean out were not demons, as originally thought, but angels - namely one. Castiel - and others: eventually Anna, Uriel (who later has his own agenda) and Zachariah are some of the angels who occasionally aided or got in the way of Sam and Dean's goal to stop the sixty-six seals from breaking and therefore releasing Lucifer from Hell.

Ultimately, Ruby tricked Sam into killing Lilith, and revealed that her death was actually the last seal that needed to be broken in order for Lucifer to rise. Shortly after this, Ruby was killed by the brothers, who were forced to stand and watch as Lucifer was freed to the Earth.

He's approximately 6'4" in height, 185 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes - according to his police record, that is.
